Ask!

In Second Kings 2 Elisha asks Elijah for a double anointing. Elijah replied, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.” We know Elisha did see Elijah suddenly, in a whirlwind, be carried up to heaven in a chariot of fire.
The first part of the chapter is Elisha being warned Elijah was about to be taken away. God did not allow Elisha to be caught off guard. The one thing Elijah did to prepare for his departure was to tell Elisha to ask him for something-for anything!
It is hard for Christians to appropriate the six or more verses of Jesus commanding us to ask of Him. There are many catchy sayings people have; “Blab it and grab it” is one. Couldn’t have Elijah simply took hold of Elisha’s mantle and gave him a double blessing? However, it was required first for Elisha to ask in order for him to receive.
Because of The Blood of Jesus we are made kings and priests. We have Holy Spirit constantly advocating for us and declaring us righteous. In this light, with this blood-bought authority, see your words for the power that they have. Our faith is what moves the hand of God.
The Lord clearly spoke to me 2 Corinthians 4:13 yesterday. I had to look it up. It says, “I believed and therefore I spoke.” God wants you to ask of Him. It is not in man to direct His own steps. God put the desire to have a double anointing in Elisha. I’m sure there could have been some naysayers of their time. “Oh you think you’re better than Elijah standing up to Jezebel and Ahab on Mount Carmel?” However, Elisha had the desire, he spoke, and was granted what he asked for.
In 2 Kings 2:9 when Elisha asked for a “double portion” he used the Hebrew word “peh” for portion. “Peh” means “mouth" in Hebrew. Elijah was asking for a “double mouth” to prophesy and decree things in the earth. He preformed 16 miracles over Elijah’s 8, exactly double. Don’t miss this: the miracles came by his mouth.
We are in the “decade of the mouth”. This is the Hebrew year of 5786. The number eighty means “mouth” or is the Hebrew word “peh” in Gematria. In order to bring God’s glory to earth we need to speak His Word! Elisha understood this and we see he did great exploits for God.
If you’re reading this it is not by chance. The Lord is speaking to you today to release your faith. See yourself for who he’s called you to be and the weight your words carry. It may be an impossible request. Nevertheless, it shall be done for you child of God!
