The Almond Branch

This morning I opened my Bible to the first chapter of Jeremiah, which I’m very familiar with. My son Cameron‘s verse is Jeremiah 1:4-5. Jeremiah Chapter 1 also has a well-known verse 12. What I haven’t noticed before was verse 11. Jeremiah saw the branch of an almond tree, and somehow that meant that God was ready to perform His word.

“Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.”” Jeremiah‬ ‭1‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It is easy to skip verse 11 and not connect God’s intention for it.

I was looking to God for some clear direction tonight in prayer. However, the Lord has already spoken clearly to me, although I have not seen anything in the natural. With today being St. Patrick’s Day and verse five anointing Jeremiah to be a prophet to the nations, I knew that this chapter was important for this day. The more I studied the Almond, I saw that it was indeed a now Word.

The almond tree is the first to bloom in Israel late winter (January/February). In Hebrew the word for almond tree is “shaqed” which means “awakening” or “hastening”. “Watching” in Hebrew is “shoqed”-very similar. Because the almond tree is the first to bloom, it represents the Lord’s watchful eye to hasten His Word to perform it! We are in the month of March which means we are almost exactly at the time of the almond tree blooming. This is a now Word!

The Lord gave me a clear Word almost to the day one month ago. God was reminding me in my research of the almond branch who He is. God asked Jeremiah, “What do you see?” The Lord could have easily just skipped to verse 12 and said, “I am ready to perform My Word.” He gave Jeremiah the vision of the almond branch and then interpreted its meaning.

Because we are slightly past time the almond tree is expected to bloom, expect your promise from God to come quickly. I’ve had so many conflicting thoughts on what direction to take that I knew I needed to have a sit down with Jesus tonight. I didn’t need another Word however. I needed to believe what He already told me.

With everything beginning to bloom in this season remember the almond tree. God watches over you. He watches over His Word. His Word will not return void. It will prosper in the thing whereto He sent it!

HOLD FAST! He has guaranteed His Word!

“It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭21‬-‭22‬ ‭NLT‬‬
